Outreach & Education

The AmbassadorWILD Program helps to educate locals and visitors on outdoor recreation safety and etiquette. They work on-the-ground on local outreach with support and tools from AdventureSmart, Leave No Trace, WildsafeBC and Search & Rescue. Examples of recent outreach and education include:

  • Presented to and joined Grade 3’s and 4’s from Fernie’s elementary school at Silver Springs to teach them about Hug a Tree & Survive (an AdventureSMART program), the composting toilet, and ways that everyone can be safe and help keep Silver Springs green and clean.
  • Joined WildsafeBC at the Fernie Mountain Markets & Baynes Lake Farmers Markets.
  • Educated and quizzed golfers during the Fernie Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser.
  • Attended and supported the Elk River Alliance’s annual shoreline cleanup day.
  • Set up a booth at the popular Wednesday Night Social event organised by the Fernie Arts Station.
  • Set up a booth at Family Safety Day organised by Fernie Fire and Rescue.
  • Partnered with the Elk River Alliance for the Fernie high school educational and river clean up event.
  • Speaking with visitors at the Visitor Centre and Fairy Creek Falls trailhead.
